Making the loss even worse, Chase Utley injured his thumb sliding into second base and will require an MRI on Tuesday.
Utley’s attempt to get something going for the Phillies’ offense in the top of the fourth inning Monday night backfired – in more ways than one.
In addition to being called out diving into second base, Utley suffered a right thumb injury that did not become evident until he had to be pinch-hit for in the ninth inning of the Phils’ 7-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
