The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that offensive tackle Jason Peters had successful surgery on his injured knee.
The surgery was an “arthroscopic partial meniscectomy on his left knee” and is not expected to be season ending. Peters has, however, been ruled out of this weekend’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Just last night Andy Reid was on his weekly radio show saying that starting DT Brodrick Bunkley would likely need season ending elbow surgery. Today, after Bunkley saw Dr James Andrews, he had changed his tune.
“Dr. Andrews said he’s had some guys who had worse injuries and played through them and other guys whose injuries weren’t as bad but couldn’t play through them,” Reid said. “It’s just different for everybody, so we’ll see. We’ll rehab him and see how it goes. Yesterday, it didn’t look good. But he has a chance to get back out there.
“Right now, the swelling is down, and he’s not in a lot of pain. He won’t practice tomorrow, but beyond that, we’ll just have to see.”
As far as Bunkley’s assumed replacement in concerned, Jeff Owens says he’s still going to be signed from the practice squad. If Bunkley only misses a game or two Owens could still have a roster spot if the team cuts Chad Hall when Riley Cooper comes back.
CSN is reporting that the Eagles will send DT Brodrick Bunkley to IR following the elbow injury he suffered Sunday night against the 49ers. Bunkley suffered ligament damage and will require surgery.
He will be replaced by DT Jeff Owens, who the Eagles will reportedly sign off their practice squad this week. Owens was the Eagles 7th round pick this past season out of Georgia. He was cut when the team trimmed their roster to 53, but signed to the practice squad a few days later.
While Owens will take Bunkley’s spot on the roster, Trevor Laws and Antonio Dixon will replace the snaps Bunkley played.
Reuben Frank of the Burlington County Times is citing a league source that says the Eagles have contacted the Buffalo Bills about the availability of running back Marshawn Lynch.
It could be a sign of concern about the status of LeSean McCoy, who suffered a fractured rib in Sunday’s loss to the Redskins. McCoy broke the rib in the first half and continued to play the rest of the game, but it could be a concern going forward. Obviously a running back is going to take a lot of shots to the ribs in any given game
Their interest in Lynch could also stem from the disappointing play of Mike Bell so far.
Our Bills blog, Buffalo Rumblings thinks Lynch could be expendable.
Though the Bills have repeatedly denied any interest in trading Lynch, their first-round pick in 2007, reports continue to circulate that the team is open to the idea of trading him. With Buffalo very much in the league cellar and the team’s backfield crowded beyond belief, flipping Lynch for a draft pick might be a wise move for GM Buddy Nix to make.
Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson’s man is out of a job… The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that they’ve released WR Hank Baskett to make room on the 53 man roster for RB Joique Bell.
RB Martell Mallett and S Chip Vaughn were also released… but neither of those guys are married to playmates.
On the bright side for Hank, when the Eagles released him last year he was picked up by a team en route to a Superbowl.
Two hours ago, RB Joique Bell twittered that he’s been signed by the Eagles.
On the plane Heading to Philly….ur boy is a “EAGLE” now…..haha ’’MAGIC MAN"
Bell, who the Bills signed as an undrafted free agent, had a good preseason with the team but did crack the Bills crowded backfield. Over the first two preseason games Bell rushed 16 times for 122 yards and 2 TDs. He’s got good size at 5-11, 220 as well. He drew praise from our Bills blogger for his preseason performance.
On the same day the Eagles placed fullback Leonard Weaver on IR, they signed his replacement. Fullback Owen Schmitt was brought in for a tryout and signed a deal with the Eagles. Former Jets & Eagles fullback Jason Davis was also reportedly brought in.
Schmitt was originally a 5th round pick of Seattle in 2008, but was cut by the team a little over a week ago.
The Eagles also promoted TE/FB Garrett Mills from the practice squad. He’ll take Jamaal Jackson’s spot on the roster, who was also placed on IR today.
Today the Eagles announced the signing of three more players to bring their practice squad the league max of eight. WR Jeremy Williams from the Chargers, TE Garrett Mills, who spent the last three seasons with the Vikings and S Chip Vaughn, who was drafted by the Saints last year.
So your full 2010 Philadelphia Eagles practice squad is…
WR Jeremy Williams, TE Garrett Mills, S Chip Vaughn, WR Chad Hall, RB Martell Mallett, DT Jeff Owens, G/C Dallas Reynolds and C A.Q. Shipley
The Eagles announced today that they’ve signed five players to their practice squad, all of which were with them in training camp.
WR Chad Hall, RB Martell Mallett, DT Jeff Owens, G/C Dallas Reynolds and C A.Q. Shipley
The NFL allows teams to have up to 8 players on its practice squad, so we could see more players added in the coming days.
Yesterday, the Eagles were forced to release Max Jean-Gilles because the Stacy Andrews trade to Seattle was not completed in time for the 6pm deadline.
Today, as expected, Max re-signed and now the roster stands at 53.
The Eagles’ trade of Stacy Andrews to the Seahawks came too late for the 6pm deadline so they had to cut Max Jean-Gilles to get themselves to the 53 man roster limit.
Since Max is a vested veteran, he does not have to clear waivers and is free to talk to other teams. However, the Eagles said that they hope to sign Max back as early as tomorrow. Eagles GM Howie Roseman said that when he told Max what they had to do that Max said he wanted to remain an Eagle. So in all likelihood he’ll be back by Monday.
Reports are the the Eagles final cut was WR Kelley Washington. They opted to keep Hank Baskett over him.
The Eagles have finally have finally finished with the Andrews brothers. Reports say that they’ve traded guard Stacy Andrews to the Seattle Seahawks.
Terms of the deal have not yet been released. Adam Schefter says it's a "late round pick." Obviously...
The Eagles have cut nine more players and are just two away from getting their roster to 53 by the 6pm deadline. The most recent cuts are,
Jordan Norwood, Cornelius Ingram, Dallas Reynolds, Fenuki Tupou, Eric Moncur, Jeff Owens, Tracy White, Macho Harris, & Quintin Demps.
The notable names on that list are of course Quintin Demps & Macho Harris. Their release leaves the Eagles with just three safeties. Quintin Mikell and the two rookies Nate Allen & Kurt Coleman.
Of that group, Cornelius Ingram and Jeff Owens are likely practice squad candidates.
ESPN NFC East blogger Matt Mosley is reporting that defensive ends Moise Fokou and Darryl Tapp are both safe as the Eagles make their cuts to get their roster to the 53 man limit.
When the Eagles acquired DE Antwan Barnes from Baltimore earlier in the day, it was speculated that either Fokou or Tapp could end up being the odd man out. Fokou has played LB & DE at points this preseason.
The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane is reporting that center A.Q. Shipley informed him that he has been released by the Eagles.
The Eagles announced today that they’ve acquired DE Antwan Balmer from the Baltimore Ravens. Multiple sources are reporting that the Eagles sent a 7th round pick in return.
Barnes, 25, was a fourth round pick of the Ravens in the 2007 draft. He posted five sacks, including three last year, during his three-year career in Baltimore. He was also a solid special teams player for the Ravens.
Chad Hall’s great NFL story is over, for now. Today the Eagles released the WR/RB, who was signed as a free agent after spending two years in the United States Air Force.
Hall was used primarily as a punt returner in preseason, but did have a very strong offensive performance in the first preseason game. He caught a 57 yard pass and broke off a 22 yard run.
Adam Caplan is reporting that the Eagles will likely look to add Hall to their practice squad if he clears waivers.
The Eagles announced today that they've sent a sixth round pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for veteran offensive guard Reggie Wells. Wells has started 90 straight games for the Cardinals at various positions along the offensive line. Andy Reid had this to say about Reggie Wells.
"We're adding a player that has started several seasons in the National Football League and has played at a very high level during the course of his career," said head coach Andy Reid following the acquisition of Wells. "He has experience at several different positions along the offensive line and he will be a welcome addition to that group. You can never have enough depth at that position as you go through an NFL season."
While the Eagles did give up a 6th round pick today, they also gained one when they released RB J.J. Arrington. A condition of the deal was that if Arrington did not make the Eagles 53 man roster, Denver would send the Eagles a 6th round pick in 2012.
So the Eagles acquired a guy who started for 7 years in the NFL for essentially nothing. That's a deal clearly worth doing. The 29 year old Wells was apparently beaten out for a starting RG job by pro bowler Alan Faneca.
The Philadelphia Eagles released 10 players today, the most notable of which was RB J.J. Arrington, who the team traded for from Denver earlier in the offseason. Since he was cut, the Eagles will receive a 6th round draft pick from Denver.
CB Geoff Pope, DT Boo Robinson, CB David Pender, WR Dobson Collins, OT Jerrail McCuller, TE Nate Lawrie, RB J.J. Arringon, S Anthony Scirrotto, RB Martell Mallett, DE Pannel Egboh,
They also placed DE Victor Abiamiri on the PUP list, which means he's ineligable to play for the first 6 weeks of the season. He also does not count against the 53 man roster. This means the Eagles have about 10-11 more cuts to make.
Eagles' Jason Peters, DeSean Jackson, & Brodrick Bunkley All Likely To Return After Bye Week
Perhaps the only positive note from Andy Reid’s day after press conference yesterday was his revelation that the Eagles are likely to get three starters back when the team returns from its bye against the Indianapolis Colts in two weeks. Reid said that DeSean [Jackson], Jason Peters, and Brodrick Bunkley all " have a pretty good chance of being ready for the Colts game.”
He was also asked whether he thought Jason Peters would be ready to play a full game?
While Peters may be a full go when he returns, the same probably can’t be said for Brodrick Bunkley. This is partly because Reid doesn’t know that he’ll be 100%, but also due to the solid play of his understudy Antonio Dixon.
