The Philadelphia Flyers were rewarded for their 3-0 start in the first edition of Real Clear Sports' aggregated NHL power rankings, earning the No. 3 spot. The Flyers were ranked behind the No. 1 Buffalo Sabres and the No. 2 Detroit Red Wings.
Philadelphia earned a first-place vote from The Hockey News and was ranked fifth by both CBS Sports and Fox Sports. Even better, the Flyers finished two places above the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, who actually lead them in the standings by two points.
The rest of the Atlantic Division didn't fare quite as well. The New York Rangers did the best of the NYC-metro teams at No. 21, with the New York Islanders checking in at No. 23 and the New Jersey Devils close behind at No. 24.
