Four Villanova Wildcats tallied double figures but the balanced offensive attack wasn't enough, as the Wildcats fell at No. 14 Marquette Golden Eagles, 81-73, in a Big East Conference contest at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI. Senior guard Darius Johnson-Odam netted a game-best 24 points for No. 14 Marquette (12-2, 1-0 Big East), which opened league-play with a victory, while the Wildcats (7-7, 0-2) dropped its second straight contest.
Junior forward Mouphtaou Yarou tallied a team-best 14 points for 'Nova, which never led in the game and trailed by as much as 12 points in the second half. Freshman forward JayVaughn Pinkston added14 points, while guards, junior guard Maalik Wayns and freshman Darrun Hiill, each netted 12 points.
Villanova was able to trim the Golden Eagles lead to five points, 75-70, with less than a minute remaining, but Marquette cemented the victory by making eight of its last 13 free throws in the final minutes.
