Flyers' Winger Scott Hartnell Named To NHL All-Star Squad

Hartnell is getting some well-deserved recognition for having one of his best NHL seasons.

A day after he was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week for the week ending January 22, Philadelphia Flyers' left winger Scott Hartnell was finally added to the roster for the NHL All-Star Game. Hartnell replaces injured Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews at this coming weekend's event in Ottawa.

More: On Hartnell going to the All-Star Game

Hartnell's 25 goals is tied for sixth-best in the NHL, and puts him within range of his single-season high of 30 set back in 2008-09. He leads all NHL players with 13 power-play goals. He has scored five goals in his last two games, netting two in a 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on January 21, and scoring three consecutive goals in the second period of a 6-5 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins on January 22. It marked the first time in his 11-year NHL career that Hartnell had tallied multiple goals in consecutive games. The 29-year-old Regina, Saskatchewan-native leads the Flyers in plus-minus with +18, and ranks second on the club in points (25-19-44).

This is Hartnell's second time to be making the trip to the midseason classic, having played in the NHL YoungStars Game in 2002 while a member of the Nashville Predators.
