Andrew Bynum injury update: Sixers say C could return in December

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The 76ers finally released an update on the ailing knee of C Andrew Bynum

Since the start of the NBA season, the Sixers have been noticeably quiet regarding Andrew Bynum's injury. Specifically, they've refused to put a timetable on his return... until now. According to a release from the team, the target date fro Bynum's return to basketball activities is December 10th.

From that point, the team says it expects him to need between 1-4 weeks of conditioning, training & practice before he is able to play in a game. So the most optimistic time to expect to actually see Bynum in a game is late December, with early January being the more cautious assessment.

"We know that Sixers fans are eager to see Andrew Bynum play and shine in a 76ers uniform," Sixers GM Tony DiLeo said in a statement. "We also know that no one is more eager to see Andrew play for the Sixers than Andrew himself. He fully realizes the key contribution he can make to the team. Hopefully, that day is coming soon."

The team says that Bynum has been cleared now for "low level" exercise.

Bynum came to the Sixers as part of a 4-team blockbuster trade which saw Andre Iguodala head to Denver, Bynum to Philly and Dwight Howard to the LA Lakers. In all, 12 players and a number of future picks were involved.
