Phillies-Twins trade: Philadelphia acquires Ben Revere from Minnesota

The Philadelphia Phillies filled their hole in center field, acquiring Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to a deal that sends outfielder Ben Revere to Philadelphia and pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May to Minnesota, according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly.

Revere, who will turn 25 next season, is expected to start in center field for the Phillies. Revere hit .294/.333/.342 last season, which places him below league average as a hitter. Most of the young outfielder’ value is tied up in his defense, and he should give Philadelphia an elite defender in the outfield.

Worley started 23 games for the Phillies last season, compiling a 4.20 ERA over 133 innings. Advanced statistics suggest that Worley pitched better than his ERA, so the Twins likely expect some improvement from Worley. The right-handed pitcher will turn 26 next season.

May is regarded as the Phillies top pitching prospect. The right-hander recently turned 23, and complied a 4.87 ERA in Double-A last season.
