The Red Wings tied a record for consecutive wins at home
The Detroit Red Wings were without starting goaltender Jimmy Howard, out with a broken index finger, but the Philadelphia Flyers couldn't capitalize, falling 4-3 on the road. The game was knotted at three goals apiece heading into the third period, but Johan Franzen beat Sergei Bobrovsky thanks to some nifty passing from Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg to put the Red Wings up for good.
Brayden Schenn notched his first goal of the game on a wide open net in the first period after backup Red Wings goaltender Joey MacDonald mishandled the puck behind his own net. His second goal put the Flyers up 2-1 in the second period, off an assist from Braydon Coburn. Pavel Datsyuk scored from 28 feet out on a powerplay to the tie the game once again.
Maxime Talbot scored on a tip-in off a pass from Scott Hartnell, but the Red Wings were once again quick with a response. Henrik Zetterberg found nylon two minutes later from 36-feet out. For the night, Bobrovsky faced 25 shots on goal to 29 for MacDonald.
The Flyer have now lost five of their last six games. They host the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins this week, before heading out on a four-game road stand.

The Philadelphia Flyers will hit the road Sunday in hopes that a getaway is just what they need to get back on track, as they visit the Detroit Red Wings in a inter-conference match up at the Joe Louis Arena (7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network). The Flyers (31-17-7, 69 points) are just 1-3-1 in their last five games, while the Red Wings (37-17-2, 76 points) are searching for their 20th consecutive victory at home.
On Saturday, the Flyers gave up three unanswered goals in a 5-2 home loss to Atlantic Division rival, the New York Rangers. The was Philly's second loss to the league-leading Rangers in just a six-day span.
It is still unclear if Flyers' starting goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, will play because of an illness. If he cannot play, the Flyers will need to turn to Sergei Bobrovsky to help Philadelphia earn just its second victory in Detroit in over 20 seasons.
Meanwhile, Detroit is rolling, especially at home where it has won 19 straight and is looking to tie a NHL record of 20 consecutive victories in its friendly confines. Ironically, the Red Wings would tie the 1975-76 Flyers and 1929-30 Boston Bruins as winners of 20 in a row at home.

Flyers Trade Deadline: Defensive Help Top Priority
The trade deadline approaches, and the slumping Philadelphia Flyers suddenly look like a team in need of serious upgrades. Prior to the Feb. 27 deadline, the Flyers will likely be active in looking to add a defenseman, if not anything else.
"I don't think they're going to get a top four defenseman, but they need depth on the blue line, no question. Injuries can be a major issue come playoff time and they don't have enough depth there at that position. I would try to add a guy like Hal Gill, a veteran defenseman with the Montreal Canadiens who has playoff experience. The Flyers will be looking, and I think they will add a guy before the trade deadline comes and goes," said CSN Philly hockey analyst Keith Jones.
