DeSean Jackson Likely To Receive Franchise Tag From Philadelphia Eagles

DeSean Jackson will likely be back in Philly on a one-year deal.

The Eagles are looking to make some big strides in 2012, and keeping DeSean Jackson in the fold will certainly help that cause.

According to Jeff McClain of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson will be headed back to the city of brotherly love via the franchise tag.

As McClain points out in his article, Jackson said after the season that he would have no issues with being tagged as the franchise player. This is somewhat surprising considering how NFL careers can come to end so abruptly.

However, Jackson would be getting paid somewhere around $9.5 million dollars, which would be a healthy raise from the $769,000 he received in base pay in 2011.

The other way to look at this move is Jackson could be dealt if the right trade came along. He's a great return man and consummate deep threat, but Jackson hasn't always had the best attitude in the locker room. It would be a surprising move to ship him off, but with such a high salary it's a possibility none the less.

Jackson is only 25 years old so he has time to mature and continue to develop not only as a player but a person. After all the moves the Eagles made to get in position for a championship run, it's hard to picture them letting a talented play-maker walk out the door.
