St. Joe's Vs. Richmond: Hawks Lose Heartbreaker, 52-49

Carl Jones’ fired a desperation three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but the potential game-tying shot did not hit its intended target, ending St. Joe’s three-game win streak and throwing cold water on their tournament hopes in a 52-49 loss to Richmond on Wednesday night.

The Red Hawks needed a win to stay on the bubble. Even a win against Temple on Saturday would do nothing for their tournament hopes which can now only be achieved by winning the Atlantic 10 tournament, which starts March 6.

Fans felt Jones was fouled as he attempted his second bout of heroics, but they left disappointed. Jones’ tied the game late on a three-point shot with 32 seconds to play, but C.J. Aiken fouled Derrick Williams with four seconds on the clock. Williams hit his first shot for the lead, but missed his second. Darien Brothers sunk two free throws as the Hawks tried to get the ball back.

St Joe's Vs Richmond: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The Hawks of St. Joe's and the Richmond Spiders are set to do battle Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

Phil Martelli's group is looking to win their fourth straight before heading into a huge game with No. 22 Temple over the weekend. The Hawks beat George Washington 73-66 on Saturday, with Langston Galloway scoring 18 points to lead the way.

With a victory, St. Joe's (18-10, 8-5) will move into second place in the Atlantic 10 standings. The Hawks will be looking for the same result they found on Feb. 1st, when they downed Richmond on the road 70-60.

As for the Spiders (14-14, 5-8), they'll be looking to turn their fortunes. Richmond has lost five of six and looking out of the race in the A-10. Richmond has a major issue with rebounding, where it ranks 321st in the country.

The Spiders will live and die with the duo of Darien Brothers and Kendall Anthony. Between them, they average more than 26 point per game which isn't incredible but respectable. Anthony is providing the Richmond fans long-term hope as a freshman. Give him credit, he's overcoming just a five-foot-eight, 140 pound frame.

St. Joe's needs this game to keep pace in the A-10. Richmond will simply try to play spoiler.

Game Time: 7:00 p.m. ET

Radio: 610 AM (WIP)

TV: None
