Heading into February, the La Salle Explorers were primed for a first-round bye in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament at 6-2 in conference play. They are just 1-5 over their last six games, however. Now at 7-7, the Explorers are in eighth place overall, and will in all likelihood be playing on the first day of the tourney.
If the season ended today, La Salle would tip off against the ninth-place Duquesne Dukes in the first round for the right to play the 1-seed Temple Owls. The Explorers are currently 1.5 games out of fourth place, and would need a lot of help to move up with every team in the league having at most two games left to play. They close the regular season with the Charlotte 49ers on Wednesday and the St. Louis Billikens on Saturday.
