Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots drew an overnight rating of 47.8, which was the third highest rating behind Super Bowl XLV and XXI (via TV By The Numbers).
Here's the top five overnight ratings for the Super Bowl (broadcast network in brackets):
T1. 47.9/71 - Super Bowl XLV, Packers 31-Steelers 25 (Fox)
T1. 47.9/68 - Super Bowl XXI, Giants 39-Broncos 20, (CBS)
3. 47.8/71 - Super Bowl XLVI, Giants 21-Patriots 17 (NBC)
4. 47.4/NA - Super Bowl XIV, Steelers 31-Rams 19, (CBS)
5. 46.9/70 - Super Bowl XX, Bears 46-Patriots 10, (NBC)
As you can see, this year's game gave NBC its second top five rated Super Bowl broadcast. The numbers were also up 7% from the last time the Giants and Patriots met in the Super Bowl.
However, despite being slightly behind last year's 47.9 rating, the game was seen by a record 111.3 million people (via Richard Sandomir's Twitter). NBC did live stream the game online which could have helped boost the numbers to the new record.

The 2011 season did not unfold according to Andy Reid's plan. But in the eyes of Las Vegas odds makers, next year should be better.
MGM Grand's Sports Book released preliminary odds of reaching the Super Bowl in 2013, and the Eagles come in at 6/1 odds, trailing only the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers as Super Bowl favorites. The Patriots are the favorite to win at 5/1 and the Packers, who finished the 2011 regular season an NFL-best 15-1, have 11/2 odds.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are tied with the Eagles at 6/1, giving both teams better odds to reach the Super Bowl than the current champion. The New York Giants begin the offseason at 8/1 to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

Madonna may be 53-years-old, but she still has it.
The legendary musician shocked everyone by actually having her halftime performance draw a higher rating than the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Madonna's show brought in a 48.3 number while the game trailed with a 47.8 ratings figure according to John Ourand.
The Super Bowl failed to break it's own ratings record despite having two very large market teams in the game. The record was set last year with Green Bay and Pittsburgh, two of the smallest markets (including the smallest) in the NFL.
Of course, what would a halftime show be without a little controversy? As you may have heard, singer M.I.A. gave the middle finger to the viewing audience, prompting the NFL and NBC to apologize quickly for the unfortunate moment. The other performers including Cee Lo, Nicki Minaj and LMFAO.
For the Super Bowl, the Giants and Patriots did do a much better number than their 2008 match-up, when they drew just a 43.1 rating.

The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17. Eli Manning took home the MVP award after a 30-40, 296 yard performance capped off by what proved to be a 78 yard game winning drive late in the fourth quarter. It’s the second title for the Giants during the Tom Coughlin/Eli Manning era and fourth overall.
The game winning TD was actually a tactical move by the Patriots, who allowed Ahmad Bradshaw to score with about :57 left. Had they not, or had he realized that’s what was happening, they likely would have only gotten the ball back with :20 left. In the end however, it didn’t really matter as the Patriots could barely move the ball and ended up attempting a hail mary from about the 50. The Giants defended it and sealed their second title since 2007.
The Patriots will certainly be haunted by a few bad drops in the fourth quarter that could have changed their fortunes. At the same time, the Giants will relish their continued incredible good luck. They fumbled three times tonight, but recovered two and had the other negated by a Patriots penalty.
Now, the offseason begins. Teams can begin using franchise tags on February 20th. NFL free agency begins on 3/13 at 4pm.

The Super Bowl is easily the biggest gambling day of the year for sports fans, and even if your NFL team isn't participating in the big game -- sorry Philadelphia Eagles fans -- it doesn't mean you can't enjoy watching it. One of the best parts of the Super Bowl is the prop bets, which range for the basic (who will win the coin toss?) to the outlandish (what outfit will Madonna wear during her halftime performance?).
Either way, if you're a degenerate gambler then the sports betting website Bovada every betting aspect of the Super Bowl covered.
Currently, if one would like to bet on the coin toss, well, the money line is sitting at -115 for both heads or tails. Meanwhile, if you think that Kelly Clarkson is going to mess up the national anthem, the payoff for that is +250.
The Super Bowl MVP award odds has Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as a 7-5 favorite, while Giants' quarterback Eli Manning has 9-4 odds.

The Philadelphia Eagles may not be a part of Super Bowl 2012, but we all know that there's at least one way to peak fans interest in the game -- gambling on it! According to the Bovada website, the New England Patriots enter the contest against the New York Giants as 3-point favorites with the over-under set at 53 1/2 points.
However, if betting the line just doesn't do it for you, well, no worries there. Bovada has hundreds of different prop bets like: Who will be the game's MVP? Who will win the coin toss? Who is going to score the game's first touchdown? What kind of outfit will national anthem singer, Kelly Clarkson, wear?
So, if the match up between the Patriots and Giants doesn't peak your interest enough just lay some money down and enjoy the ride.
