Big Ten Tournament 2012 Bracket Reactions: Predictions For The Championship Game

The Penn St. Nittany Lions were knocked out of the 2012 Big Ten Tournament in the opening round, but the event barreled on without them. On Sunday, the Big Ten Championship Game will pit the Ohio St. Buckeyes against the Michigan St. Spartans for the top prize in the conference and an automatic bid in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Plenty of Philadelphia area college hoops fans will likely still be watching and seeing how their brackets are going to shake out. Babaorealy of Big Ten blog BT Powerhouse rounds up some writer predictions for the Championship Game.

apy5000: Michigan State
Although the Buckeyes are playing as well as they have all season, Michigan State is built to defend Jared Sullinger. The Spartans have size at forward with Draymond Green, Derrick Nix and Adreian Payne. On the other side of the ball, Ohio State does not have a man who can guard Green one-on-one.

babaoreally: Ohio State
I like what I've seen from the Buckeyes in the BTT so far. Evan Ravenel has played well lately, and I think he will help balance out Michigan State's size inside. They're both pretty good teams that seem to be peaking in the right month.

There are more predictions to be found if you click through. Definitely worth a read.

Big Ten Tournament 2012, Indiana vs. Penn State Final Score: Nittany Lions Fall, 75-58

The Penn State Nittany Lions hung tough for the first 20 minutes, but were ultimately outclassed by the Indiana Hoosiers 75-58 during the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Tim Frazier had 26 points for Penn State, but the star guard received barely any help. His teammates combined to score 32 points on 10-31 shooting. The Nittany Lions trailed by only six at the half, 38-32, but things unraveled quickly. Indiana went on a 16-2 run to push the margin to 54-34.

Jordan Hulls led Indiana with 20 points. Cody Zeller (19 points, 10 rebounds) and Christian Watford (14 points, 10 boards) both had double-doubles.

"It's not my first time playing here," Hulls said. "Shots were falling down for me, teammates were finding me when I was open and I created a little bit on my own. So luckily, the shot was falling down."

Big Ten Tournament 2012, Indiana vs. Penn State Score Update: Nittany Lions Trail At Half, 38-32

Tim Frazier scored 19 points in the first half, but the Penn State Nittany Lions still trail the Indiana Hooisers 38-32 at halftime of their opening-round Big Ten Tournament matchup.

Penn State earned the lowest seed in the Big Ten Tournament, but stayed tight with No. 15 Indiana in the opening 20 minutes, almost solely because of Frazier's contributions.

Frazier hit seven of 14 from the field as Penn State hung tough, but will likely need more help in the second half. The star guard's teammates mustered just 13 points and hit only four field goals.

Jordan Hulls paced Indiana with13 points, drilling three out of four three-pointers. Cody Zeller added 12 points and six boards for the Hoosiers.

Big Ten Tournament Bracket 2012: Indiana Vs. Penn St. Time, TV Schedule And More

The 15th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in opening round play of the 2012 Big Ten basketball tournament, pitting the universities against each other for the third time this season.

Penn State is hopeful that the third time is indeed the charm, and that it can upend the Hoosiers for the first time this season. Indiana trounced the Nittany Lions in the last meeting in Bloomington, but Penn State hung tough on its home court when the schools met back in January.

Tim Frazier, a junior guard, leads the way for Penn State with 18.9 points per game, and Indiana counters with a balanced offensive attack headlined by sensational freshman Cody Zeller.

The tip is set for 2:30 p.m. EST and the game can be seen on the Big Ten Network.

Big Ten Basketball Tournament 2012: Tim Frazier Leads Optimistic Penn State Nittany Lions

Entering the Big Ten basketball tournament as the conference's final seed, the Penn State Nittany Lions are not expected to dish out much damage. They understand that. But after advancing to last season's title game, the Nittany Lions also know magic is attainable.

"What we learned last year is anything can happen. No one thought we could make that run," Tim Frazier said Monday. "Everybody has equal opportunity." (via Associated Press)

Frazier took huge strides this season as a junior, nearly triple his scoring average from 6.3 points to 18.6 points. And if Penn State is capable of another run like last year's, it will likely be due to Frazier's play.

"His growth has been incredible this year both on and off the floor," coach Patrick Chambers said of the high-scoring guard. "I think you see a scorer now and he's made his teammates better. He's made Jermaine Marshall better because there are five guys on Tim Frazier. He's getting open shots now." (via Associated Press)
