In the running of the 2012 Kentucky Oaks on Friday, Rosie Napravnik became the first female to win the Oaks riding atop Believe You Can.

The 2012 Kentucky Oaks, a Grade I race for three-year-old fillies, has been delayed by stormy weather in the Louisville area. The patrons in the infield were asked to leave the infield due to the inclement weather at Churchill Downs.
During the broadcast on NBC Sports Network, Bob Costas stated that the Kentucky Oaks was now being aimed at a 6:20 p.m. Eastern start. The original start time was scheduled for 5:45 p.m. The races before the Oaks are going to resume at 5:30 p.m.
More thunderstorms are expected on Saturday which could impact the way the 2012 Kentucky Derby is run if the track turns sloppy. There is currently a 40% chance of Thunderstorms tomorrow. The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for 6:24 p.m. on Saturday.

Extravagant head attire has long been part of the Kentucky Derby. The race is certainly centered around horses, and the track, and which jockey rides his horse faster than the others, but hats have become such a big part of the event's culture that the race's official website has a section dedicated entirely to headwear.
The site has a gallery of hats that might be acceptable (hint: any wide-brimmed hat that looks like it costs more than a human life is sufficient), and a description of why hats have become a part of the Derby culture:
Part Southern tradition, part spectacle, the Kentucky Derby hat parade is much of what makes "The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports" one of the greatest people-watching events in the world! From the fantastic to the sublime, there are no rules or limits when it comes to choosing your Derby hat.
Whether to make a statement or just keep the sun at bay, Kentucky Derby hats are part of the tradition and the pageantry that make a trip to the Derby an unforgettable experience. Check out some of our favorites from prior years!

Robby Albardo, the jockey who was scheduled to ride Hard Not To Like in the Kentucky Oaks, has been arrested, according to a report.
Robby Albarado had been scheduled to ride Hard Not To Like today in the Kentucky Oaks, among other mounts. Unbelievable.
— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) May 4, 2012
From the Courier Journal:
Borden said a decision about Albarado's mounts Saturday will be made later.
Last year Albarado was charged with assaulting his wife, but charges of domestic assault and wanton endangerment were dismissed and he pleaded guilty to interfering with a witness, a Class A misdemeanor.
Albarado was not scheduled to ride in the Kentucky Derby, nor is Hard Not To Like. Below is a video analysis of the 2012 post positions from SB Nation's YouTube channel.

With the 2012 Kentucky Derby just two days away, Dr. Kendall Hansen (a co-owner of Hansen) announced that his horse will be sponsored by Microsoft Windows Phone on Saturday (via Blood Horse). The logo for the phone will be displayed on the pants of jockey Ramon Dominguez.
Dr. Hansen said about the sponsorship:
"I felt I had a winner with Hansen from the first, and having Windows Phone sponsor him for this race is the perfect cap to this perfect run. I think fans will be excited to see Windows Phone associated with the horse."
Hansen currently has 10/1 odds and will start out of the 14th gate. Hansen took the Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct back in March. Dr. Hansen certainly feels his horse is the favorite:
"We're going to win this race. We're not worried about anyone," he said.

The 2012 Kentucky Derby is just two days away. Yesterday, we learned the post positions for the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. In addition, the updated odds for the race came out and Bodemeister is now the favorite at 4/1 while the former co-favorite, Union Rags, remains at 9/2 odds.
Both horses have good positioning for the race with Union Rags coming out of the fourth gate and Bodemeister leaving out of the sixth gate. Next to Union Rags in the third gate is Take Charge Indy which is being ridden by jockey Calvin Borel, a three-time Kentucky Derby winner (2007, 2009, 2010). Take Charge Indy currently has 10/1 odds.
Could Borel pull off another victory at Churchill Downs? I have a feeling that it isn't his year so I'll take Union Rags to win, Gemologist starting out of the 15th gate (and currently at 6/1) to place and Take Charge Indy to show.
Here's a couple links to expert predictions:
Washington Post: "Bodemeister by a nose"
Associated Press: "5 horses to watch in Saturday's Kentucky Derby"
