French Open 2012 Results: Round 1: Top Seeds Novak Djokovic, Victoria Azarenka Advance

The 2012 French Open continued on Monday with no real upsets on the Men's side of the draw. No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 seed Roger Federer were both straight set winners. The lone seed to fall was No. 15 Feliciano Lopez who had to retire with an injury.

On the Women's side of the draw, No. 1 seed Victoria Azarenka survived her first round match against Alberta Brianti. Unlike the men's side, the Women's draw saw upsets. No. 12 Sabine Lisicki, No. 17 Roberta Vinci, No. 30 Mona Barthel and No. 32 Monica Niculescu all lost on Monday.

Allentown, PA resident Varvara Lepchenko defeated Ksenia Pervak 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-4.

Djokovic defeated Potito Starace, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Federer defeated Tobias Kamke 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.

Azarenka defeated Brianti 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2.
