The Texas Rangers are interested in trading for Philadelphia Phillies pitchers Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee according to a report from Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.
The Rangers are looking for another quality arm as they prepare for another deep run in the playoffs, and Hamels has emerged as their primary target. One big hang-up on a possible trade is the long-term extension the Phillies and Hamels are negotiating. If the Phillies are able to sign Hamels, any trade offers would immediately be taken off the table.
If the Rangers are unable to make a deal for Hamels or Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke, Knobler suggests that the Rangers would consider trading for Lee again. Money would once again be the issue as Lee is owed $75 million over the next three seasons. Knobler even says that the Lee deal would be a longshot, but the Rangers do like Lee from his time with the Rangers in 2010 when he led them to the World Series.
