Phillies Vs. Braves Final Score: Roy Halladay Gets 2,000th Career Strikeout in 6-2 Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies were defeated, 6-2, by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at Turner Field. The Braves took all three games from the Phillies in the three-game set.

The Braves got on the board first in the first inning on a Jason Heyward solo homer. Dan Uggla's RBI double scored one more run in the inning. Chipper Jones' solo home run in the third inning pushed the lead to 3-0. Shane Victorino got a run back for the Phillies in the fifth inning on a solo shot. Carlos Ruiz, playing through a foot injury, hit an RBI single in the sixth inning. Heyward reached first base on a throwing error by Phillies pitcher Jake Diekman in the seventh inning which allowed pinch hitter Tyler Pastornicky to score. Freddie Freeman's RBI single later in the inning scored Heyward and Martin Prado and finished the scoring.

Roy Halladay got the start in the loss and picked up his 2,000th strikeout in the first inning. Halladay went six innings, giving up six hits (two home runs), three earned runs and a walk while striking out seven batters. Tim Hudson went 5 2/3 innings for the Braves in the win. Hudson gave up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters.

The Phillies (45-57) will begin their next series on July 31 against the Washington Nationals (60-40) at Nationals Park.

Carlos Ruiz Injury Update: Phillies Catcher Deals With Foot Injury, Plans To Play Sunday

Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz expects to play on Sunday in the team's finale against the Braves, as Philly tries to avoid a sweep at the hands of their NL East Division rival. Ruiz has struggled with pain in the back of his foot (mild plantar fasciitis, according to manager Charlie Manuel) for a couple of weeks now, and didn't play in Saturday's game as he missed his second out of the last three contests.

It was especially a blow to Ruiz considering his record this season as the league's co-leader of most games played at catcher along with Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina. The Phillies' schedule is going to help Ruiz rest that foot, with off days giving him the luxury of sitting four out of six days.

Atlanta defeated Philadelphia 6-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday, which gives the Braves five straight wins over the Phillies. Phillies Vs. Braves Final Score: Philadelphia Loses Low Scoring Game 2-1

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night, this time by a final score of 2-1.

Both teams did most of their damage in the early innings of the game. Atlanta struck first with a sacrifice fly by third baseman Chipper Jones that scored left fielder Martin Prado. Two innings later, right fielder Jason Heyward's RBI single made it 2-0 in favor of the Braves.

The Phillies got the score to 2-1 in the fourth inning after a solo home run by second baseman Chase Utley, but couldn't muster another run against starting pitcher Mike Minor and closer Craig Kimbrel.

Philadelphia did receive a quality start from pitcher Joe Blanton, who earned the loss but played seven innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. His record now sits at 8-9 overall.

Philadelphia's record falls to 45-56, while Atlanta improves to 56-44. The third and final game of the series will be played Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Eastern Time.

Phillies Vs. Braves Preview: Game Time, TV Schedule, Probable Pitchers And More

The Philadelphia Phillies look to get back on track Saturday night, having snapped a four game win streak with a 6-1 loss against the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the three-game series. That's no small task: Philadelphia has lost five straight to Atlanta.

Joe Blanton (8-8 4.70 ERA) will take the mound for Philadelphia and face Mike Minor (5-7 5.49 ERA) for Atlanta. Blanton's last appearance in Atlanta was a 4-0 win where he gave up only three hits, but prior to that he was 0-2 in his previous five starts at Turner Field. Shane Victorino may have to lead the offense again. He was 2-for-4 in Friday's loss, picking up the team's only RBI.

Phillies Vs. Braves Final Score: Cole Hamels Lasts Only 5 Innings In 6-1 Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Atlanta Braves Friday night, opening their three game series with a 6-1 loss. Cole Hamels' first start since signing a six-year, $144 million contract was his shortest of the season, throwing 109 pitches and lasting only five innings. He gave up five runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking six.

The Philadelphia offense didn't offer much in support of Hamels, leaving 9 on base and going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Shane Victorino had the team's lone RBI, scoring Jimmy Rollins with a double on the second play of the game.

With the loss the Phillies fall to 45-55, ending a four game winning streak and failing to move out of last place in the NL East. They'll look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, when Game 2 is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
