Phillies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Phillies Win Pitchers Duel 3-1 On Chase Utley Home Run

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3-1 Friday night, opening the three game series with a win. Roy Halladay put in a strong effort for Philedalphia, going eight innings while giving up only one run on two hits, striking out eight with no walks.

St. Louis starter Kyle Lohse had similar success against Philadelphia, holding them to only one run on four hits while striking out seven. The Phillies finally got their chance when Barret Browning entered the game for St. Louis at the start of the eighth, and Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley made the most of the opportunity. Rollins reached on a leadoff single, and Utley scored them both with a shot over the center field wall. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 25th save with a scoreless ninth and Philadelphia secured a 3-1 win.

Philadelphia will look to keep things rolling in Game 2, scheduled for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
