Phillies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Philadelphia Tops St. Louis, 8-7, In 11 Innings

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-7, in 11 innings on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. With the win, the Phillies took two games out of the three-game set.

The Cardinals struck first with an RBI double the first inning. The Phillies responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Between the third and fourth innings the Cardinals took a 4-3 lead. The lead did not last as a Ryan Howard solo homer tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Cardinals took the lead back with three runs in the top of the eighth but the Phillies matched with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Juan Pierre reached on an infield single in the 11th inning which allowed Jimmy Rollins to come home for the winning run. Carpenter led the Cardinals with 3 RBI in the game. Erik Kratz matched Carpenter with 3 RBI for the Phillies on his home run in eighth inning.

Vance Worley got the start and went 5 1/3 innings for the Phillies. Worley gave up nine hits and four earned runs. Lance Lynn went five innings for the Cardinals and gave up four hits and four earned runs. Michael Schwimer gave up the other three earned runs for the Phillies in one inning of work. Mitchell Boggs was charged with a blown save for giving up one earned run on one hit in two innings. Barret Browning took the loss for the Cardinals for giving up two hits and one earned run in 1 2/3 innings. Jeremy Horst got the win for the Phillies, giving up two hits while striking out three batters in two innings.

The Phillies (52-62) will start their next series against the Miami Marlins (52-63) on Aug. 13 at Marlins Park.
