The Philadelphia Phillies take the opener over the Cincinnati Reds 12-5
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds Monday night 12-5. Roy Halladay picked up his seventh win of the season, allowing five runs on 10 hits over seven innings. Mike Leake gets the loss, his eighth of the season, after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in only 4.1 innings. Their records now stand at 7-7 and 5-8, respectively.
The Phillies were led by home runs off the bats of Ryan Howard, Erik Kratz and John Mayberry. Howard and Kratz finished the contest with two RBIs each, and Mayberry finished with three. Chase Utley and Domonic Brown also got in on the action, adding two RBIs apiece.
The Reds got on the board first with a RBI double from Jay Bruce and a run-scoring groundout from Scott Rolen in the first inning, and led 5-3 after a three-run fifth inning. However, they could not overcome the Phillies offense, who scored at least one run in every inning from the third to the eighth, including four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth.
