Philadelphia 76ers GM Search: Rockets' Sam Hinkie Emerges As Candidate

Stay connected for news and updates

The Philadelphia 76ers' list of possible general manager candidates now includes Sam Hinkie, currently of the Houston Rockets.

The Sixers reached out to Houston, but it remains uncertain whether or not Hinkie will leave his spot to join The City of Brotherly Love. However, the executive vice president of basketball operations for Houston is in the thick of the conversation to replace Rod Thorn in Philly, according to SI.com.

Hinkie has been one of the front runners in the NBA's analytics wave and has certainly learned how to run a team from one of the league's best, Rockets GM Daryl Morey.

The other candidates vying for the Sixers' position are ESPN analyst and ex-Portland Trailblazers assistant GM Tom Penn, former New Orleans GM Jeff Bower and Boston assistant GM Mike Zarren.

No timetable is known for when the job needs to be filled.
