U.S. Open 2012: Varavara Lepchenko Advances To Round 3

Allentown resident Varvara Lepchenko advanced to the third round of the 2012 U.S. Open on Wednesday afternoon when she defeated Australia's Anastasia Rodionova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Lepchenko amassed four aces throughout the course of the match, while Rodionova failed to record any. In addition, Lepchenko managed 20 wins to her opponents four and committed 19 unforced errors compared to Rodionova's 26.

Lepchenko will face the winner of the match between Samantha Stosur and Edina Gallovits-Hall.

In the men's bracket, David Ferrer defeated Kevin Anderson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(3) and will face Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands. German Cedrik-Marcel Stebe also defeated the number 29 seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
