Vance Worley Injury Update: Phillies RHP Going To The DL

The Philadelphia Phillies released some bad news on Wednesday, announcing that RHP Vance Worley will require a stint on the disabled list.

Worley has had discomfort due to bone chips in his right elbow and is expected to have surgery within the next seven to 10 days, according to The Good Phight.

The 24-year-old has been inconsistent in 2012 after bursting onto the scene with a very solid rookie season in 2011. Overall, he's 6-9 with a 4.03 ERA for the campaign. Worley was told earlier this summer that the pain he was experiencing was due to floating bone chips, but he could still pitch without fear of his condition worsening.

However, with the Phillies out of the race and Worley in need of surgery to clean up the issue, the timing is right for the youngster to shut it down for the year.

Worley is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for 2013 spring training.
