Allentown resident Varvara Lepchenko was eliminated from the 2012 U.S. Open on Friday when she fell to Samantha Stosur in straight sets, 7(7), 6(5), 6-2.

Lepchenko recorded 25 unforced errors compared to Stosur's 18 and registered three aces to Stosur's five. The No. 7 ranked Stosur will move on to face Laura Robson in Round 4.

Robson advanced earlier on Thursday by upsetting No. 9 Na Li, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2. The 18-year-old had previously only progressed past the first round only once in her career. Now, she has defeated two top 25 players in No. 23 Kim Clijsters and No. 9 Li on her way to an incredible berth in the Round of 16.
