Gymastics Women's Vault Results: USA's McKayla Maroney Earns Silver Medal

Stay connected for news and updates

It was suppose to be all but a sure thing for McKayla Maroney Sunday, but Olympic heartbreak found her instead. The Team USA gymnastics member fell on her second vault in the individual apparatus portion of the gymnastics competition and the result led to a silver medal and a finish behind Sandra Izbasa of Romania. Russia's Maria Paseka won the bronze

Maroney was near the top of the standings after her first vault earned a score of 15.886, but a score of 14.3 on her second try ended any hopes of earning a second gold medal.

Overall, Maroney's average of 15.083 was just shy of Izbasa who finished with an average of 15.191. Maroney was the only American to qualify for the finals in the vault competition.
