2012 MLS Standings: Union Now Ninth In Eastern Conference

In a week where most of the MLS was off for international play, the Philadelphia Union managed to fall further in the Eastern Conference standings and now sit in ninth place.

The only game in the Eastern Conference was between the New England Revolution and the Columbus Crew, with New England earning a 2-0 win. The Revolution, who Philadelphia played to a 0-0 draw in their last outing, had been in ninth place, but moved up to eighth with the win.

Philadelphia hopes to catch New England by the end of the season, as the Union have played three fewer games than the Revolution. However, that's about all they can hope for. There's an 11-point gap between the Revolution in eighth place and the Montreal Impact in seventh place, and with only nine games left in the season, Philadelphia is 16 points out of the fifth and final playoff spot in the East.
