2012 MLS Standings: Union Sit In 8th After Topping Dynamo

With a win over the Houston Dynamo, the Philadelphia Union pulled ahead of the New England Revolution and now sit eighth in the Eastern Conference, although they still find themselves way out of the playoffs race.

The Union now have 30 points on the year, putting them one ahead of the Revolution, who have played two more games than Philadelphia. The matchup between the Union and Dynamo had playoff implications, but only for Houston: the 3-1 loss kept them at 46 points, only one ahead of the Columbus Crew for the sixth and final spot in the East. Meanwhile, the Dynamo lost ground on D.C. United, who gained three points with a win over Chivas USA. That leaves the Dynamo and Crew the main competitors for the final playoff spot with four games remaining in the season for those sides.

Philadelphia has six games left on the year, facing off next against the Crew next Saturday.
