Young Flyers Could Play For Adirondack Phantoms If Lockout Occurs

As many teams and players are planning to deal with the possibility of an NHL Lockout, the Flyers are thinking about sending some of their younger players to the Adirondack Phantoms, according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Phantoms are an AHL franchise, and any Flyers players who are exempt from waivers could be essentially loaned out. This includes the team's younger players, like Sean Couturier, Brayden Schenn, Erik Gustafsson, Eric Wellwood, and Zac Rinaldo. This comes according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

The Phantoms are due to begin practices on Sept. 29, but the Flyers would have to send their players to the Phantoms before the possible lockout begins on Sept. 15.

The Flyers, meanwhile, are set to open training camp on Sept. 21, barring a lockout. Other Philadelphia players have explored playing in Russia or other parts of Europe.
