Conference realignment will change college basketball in Philly

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

CSN Philly: The constant realignment in college sports will have a lasting impact on college basketball tradition in Philadelphia.

Conference realignment has changed things, with no school being impacted more than Villanova. Now word comes that the seven Big East catholic schools -- Villanova, Georgetown, St. John's, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall and DePaul -- are discussing options related leaving the Big East and potentially joining the Atlantic 10 to form a 21-team basketball conference.

That mega league could produce a number of quality teams, which would benefit St. Joe's and La Salle. But it won't have the cache of the Big East and the best non-FBS basketball conference will also lack the television dollars that the big four conferences enjoy because of football.
