Penn State Scandal: Athletic Director Tim Curley, Vice President Gary Schultz Surrender For Arraignment On Multiple Charges

Former Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and former Penn State vice president Gary Schultz surrendered Monday for an arraignment on charges of perjury and failure to report abuse stemming from a 2002 incident involving former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, according to an Associated Press report.

In 2002, Sandusky was seen assaulting a young boy in the Penn State locker room showers by a then-graduate assistant. The then-graduate assistant, Mike McQueary, told head coach Joe Paterno the story, and Paterno relayed the story to the school's administrators. None of the involved parties ever contacted the police regarding the incident.

Sandusky was arrested Saturday on 40 charges that include felony sex charges against children.

The 57-year old Curley and 62-year old Schultz will make their first court appearances Monday afternoon in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Their lawyers are expected to seek a dismissal of the charges.

Schultz's lawyer, Thomas J. Farrell, believes the Penn State officials are exempt from the abuse reporting law because they never directly contacted the child involved in the incident.
