Penn State Scandal: President Graham Spanier Under 'Strict Orders' To Remain Quiet, According To Report

Penn State vice president for administration Tom Poole says no decision has been made - yet - regarding the future of Penn State president Graham Spanier, who is wrapped in scandal amid the investigation and subsequent arrest of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

According to grand jury testimony, Spanier was made aware of an alleged incident during which Sandusky sexually assaulted a young boy in the Penn State football locker room showers. Though Spanier is not facing charges, he never brought the incident to police attention.

Penn State's Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Wednesday night, and sources told the Patriot-News the trustees will either demand or accept Spanier's resignation

In the meantime, Spanier is under "strict orders" from the Board of Trustees to remain quiet despite his desire to discuss the incident publicly, according to a report in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

"It's tearing Graham up to sit by and watch everything he's done to build up this university over nearly 17 years-and see this individual's alleged acts tear away at it," said one of the sources, who asked not to be identified because of the board's policy.
