Penn State Recruiting: Three Recruits Withdraw Commitment In Wake Of Scandal

The human damage to come in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal is well known at this point. However, the damage from a football perspective will likely be felt for years as well. ESPN's recruiting blog reports that three Penn State recruits have withdrawn their commitments because of the scandal.

The biggest loss was three star rated TE J.P. Holtz from Pittsburgh. He had been recruited by Tom Bradley personally but informed the interim head coach that we would not be attending Happy Valley. He is now thought to be choosing between Pitt and Purdue.

Another big loss was OT Joe O'Connor, who was the first to rescind his commitment in the wake of the scandal. O'Connor is an Under Armour All-American. He has offers from a number of top teams in the Pac-12

Penn State has also lost the services of linebacker Bryton Barr was going to be a "preferred walk-on."

Finally, while five star DE Noah Spence was not a Penn State commit, the Nittany Lions were considered the leader for his services. Now, he's decided that his first visit will be to Ohio State, where he's being recruited personally by Urban Meyer.
