76ers fire scouts John Nash, Chris Ford

The 76ers have parted ways with long time scouts John Nash and Chris Ford.

Nash had previously been a General Manager of the 76ers from 1986 to 1990. He was also General Manager of the Washington Bullets (1990-1996), New Jersey Nets (1996-2001) and the Portland Trail Blazers (2003-2006). He returned to the Sixers in 2008 as a pro scout.

Chris Ford has compiled a 323-376 record as an NBA head coach, most recently as an interim coach with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2003-2004 season after the team let go of Randy Ayers. The team had a 12-18 record under Ford. His best seasons came during the early 90’s with the Boston Celtics, as he went 155-91 during his first three seasons as a head coach during the tail end of the Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish era.

While it would be tempting to look at this as continued house cleaning of the new owners, who recently let go of General Manager Ed Stefanski, it could also be a ramification of the continued NBA lockout. The NBA has already canceled the first two weeks of the regular season and is on the verge of canceling more. Both Ford and Nash were NBA scouts within the organization.
