The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to re-sign free agent center Tony Battie, reports Kate Fagan.

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to re-sign free agent center Tony Battie, reports Kate Fagan. The team now has 12 players under contract for training camp, which begins Friday.

Battie is no longer a starter at this stage of his career, but has built a career on being a professional willing to accept his role. He played 38 games last season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Appearing in all five of Philadelphia's playoff games, Battie averaged 1.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in a highly limited role.

The deal, according to Fagan, will be for one year. Battie spent last season playing behind Spencer Hawes, who is now a restricted free agent. The Sixers will need to decide whether to retain Hawes and fellow restricted free agent Thaddeus Young. If they do, their roster will be at 14 players, one short of the NBA limit.
