76ers' Thaddeus Young gains muscle to lock up starting job

David Butler II-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Thaddeus Young has bulked up in the offseason in an effort to become a starter.

Thaddeus Young of the Philadelphia 76ers has used this offseason to bulk up in hopes of gaining a starting spot in the backcourt.

According to CSNPhilly.com, Young has gained some weight and appears much bigger, but hasn't lost any of the agility and quickness that makes him tough to guard. Another trait Young is trying to add is a perimeter game, which he's shown at practices and scrimmages thus far.

So far, head coach Doug Collins likes what he sees.

"He’s looking to be able to add perimeter shooting to his game," Collins said. "If Thad can play a little three for us and a little four, we’re going to be much better. Thad wants to be great. It’s up to me to figure out how he best fits into our team."

Since the end of the 2012 season, Young has added 19 pounds to his 6'8'' frame and now weighs 234 pounds.

"It hasn’t impacted my game," Young said. "I can still get up and down the court and I can do all the same things I’ve been doing. It’s just a matter of progressing."
