From one team in Philadelphia to another.
On Monday, the Philadelphia 76ers announced the signing of Maalik Wayns, a rookie free-agent from Villanova, according to timesherald.com.
Supposedly the contract Wayns signed is comparable to the deal another local guy, Lavoy Allen was inked to, which was reportedly a $60,000 signing bonus and the rookie minimum of $473,604 if he makes the team.
The Philly native was by far the best player on his team last year. Despite the struggles of Villanova in 2011-12, Wayns was a star, scoring 17.6 point per game to accompany 4.6 assists.
Wayns is undersized at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, but could grow more into that frame. The youngster showed off some ability this summer for the Orlando Magic in the Summer League, averaging over 11 points per contest.
With the injury suffered by Xavier Silas earlier in the offseason, the Sixers have some room at the guard position to give some people a chance.

The Philadelphia 76ers offeseason has been a bit quiet and that's probably because the people in the front office are getting rearranged. That will soon change, as a source has told the Philadelphia Daily News Wednesday the Sixers are close to making Tom Penn its new general manager.
Penn, the former executive of the Portland Trailblazers, is expected to take over for president Rod Thorn, who's going to take on an advisory role with the franchise.
Penn, who was released as vice president of basketball operations by Portland in 2010, is said to be a collective bargaining agreement guru and a master capologist. He would come into a good situation with the Sixers on that front, as the team's moves this offseason have left it with many short-term contracts.

Xavier Silas of the Philadelphia 76ers will undergo surgery to repair sinus fractures sustained in the final summer league game, according to a report from Dei Lynam at CSN Philly. Silas was elbowed in the face and sustained a concussion and several sinus fractures.
The young point guard was undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft, and was waived by the 76ers after an invitation to attend training camp. He stayed active in the NBA Developmental league and was signed by the 76ers late in the 2012 season. He saw action in two playoffs games from the Conference Finals series against the Boston Celtics, but played only two minutes in each game. According to Lynam, he played in all five of the Sixers summer league games, averaging 21.2 minutes, 7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
