Tom Brady On Michael Vick: "He's Damn Near Impossible To Stop"

One of the things that all NFL players love about being on Monday Night football is that everyone else in the NFL is watching you. Players, coaches, GMs they’ve all got the game on and they’re all interested to see what you do. Obviously Michael Vick put on a show last night and got himself a fan in Patriots QB Tom Brady.

Brady was asked whether he watched the game last night.

“I did. I woke up and saw the headline. He’s pretty amazing as an athlete. I was watching the pregame and Steve Young said, ‘He’s the greatest weapon at quarterback that there could ever be.’ I totally agree with that. With the way he can move the football and his style of play, and when he throws the ball like he did last night, he’s damn near impossible to stop.”

Ironically, it was the Eagles who prevented a Brady vs Vick superbowl in 2004.

Pro Football Hall Of Fame Requests Michael Vick's Jersey From Last Night

Yesterday, Michael Vick put on what pretty much everyone deemed a historic performance. Not only did he and the Eagles offense break records, a number of pundits actually opined that Vick may have just played the single greatest game an NFL quarterback as ever played. As crazy as that sounds, the numbers do bear it out.

After the game, hall of famer Steve Young said that Vick’s performance was “One of the most defining games at quarterback I’ve ever seen.”

Apparently, the Pro Football Hall Of Fame agrees. Reuben Frank is reporting that they’ve requested the jersey Michael Vick wore in the historic win. It’s pretty crazy to think that 18 months ago this guy was in prison, with his football career effectively over… and now he’s going to have his jersey hanging in the Hall of Fame. If Vick continues to play anywhere near the way he did last night, there’s a decent chance he’ll get a bust of himself in there as well.. That said, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. He’s got to beat the Giants now.

Eagles Vs Redskins: LaRon Landry Pays For Pregame Taunts Of DeSean Jackson

If true, this is pretty awful sportsmanship on the part of Redskins' S LaRon Landry. According to Jay Glazer, Landry and DeAngelo Hall were mocking Eagles WR DeSean Jackson for suffering a concussion earlier in the season. Local Philly reporters saw the same thing saying that Hall and Landry were making "go to sleep" gestures. The taunts led to a little pregame skirmish between the teams with Landry, Hall, & Jackson right in the middle.

Just a few minutes later this happened. Quintin Mikell put it best, "Maybe he should have been more ready to play ball than talking."

Did Michael Vick Just Have The Greatest QB Performance Of All Time?

Michael Vick might have just played the greatest single game in pro football history. It sounds nuts, but consider this... He became the first player in the NFL history to record the following stats in a single game:

300+ passing yards
50+ rushing yards
4+ passing TDs
2+ rushing TDs

He had more fantasy points tonight than any player since the AFL/NFL merger. By the way, he reached that plateau by the midway point of the third quarter. His final line was 20/28 for 333 yards and 4 TDs. He rushed for 80 yards and another 2 TDs

After the game, hall of famer Steve Young said that Vick's performance was "One of the most defining games at quarterback I've ever seen."

Fox Sports analyst Adam Caplan called it the greatest QB performance he's ever seen.

Vick's performance so far tonight I think is the best I've ever seen any level from a QB. Anyone see any better ones?less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Eagles At Redskins: In Progress: Dimitri Patterson's Pick 6 Puts Eagles Up 59-21 Over Redskins

Dimitri Patterson likely cemented his place as a starter for the remainder of the season with his performance tonight. Patterson, in just his second start in place of the injured Ellis Hobbs, has picked off Donovan McNabb twice, the second of which was a pick 6 that put the Eagles up 59-21.

The Eagles previous TD had come on Michael Vick’s 4th TD pass of the night. He’s now accounted for 6 total TDs.

Update

Eagles All Over Redskins 45-14 At The Half

It’s been an historic first half in the nation’s capital. The Eagles have set a franchise records for points in a quarter and a half. When they concluded the first quarter up 28-0, it was the largest lead a road team had ever had after the first quarter in NFL history. Michael Vick also passed Steve Young for 2nd on all the time rushing list for quarterbacks.

Let’s just look at a few stats. The Eagles have 425 yards of offense. Michael Vick himself has accounted for five touchdowns. His QB rating for the first half is a perfect 158.3. The only TD that wasn’t his doing was a spectacular 50 yard run from Jerome Harrison.

The Redskins did make an attempt to make it a game scoring two straight TDs after the Eagles went up 35-0, but the Eagles responded with 13 unanswered points to close out the half. Donovan McNabb has thrown two touchdowns, but also has two picks both to Dimitri Patterson who is starting his second game.

It’s a monday night massacre and at this point the only question seems to be how bad is it going to get?

Update

Why Not? Michael Vick 48 Yards to Jeremy Maclin

This has become laughable. As in, when Jeremy Maclin caught that ball, I got up and started laughing like a hyena. While Michael Vick has completed nine of nine passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns (and passed Steve Young for 2nd all time in rushing yards for a quarterback), Donovan McNabb and the Redskins have yet to get a first down.

Shocking. Five touchdowns. 35-0 Eagles. Records are being broken left, right, and center.

Update

Jerome Harrison Runs Eagles 4th Touchdown in from 50 Yards Out

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWOW.

Jerome Harrison: Welcome to the Eagles. After another Redskins three-and-out, the Browns castoff took a Michael Vick handoff and used a ton of cutbacks and terrific blocks to get all the way to the endzone. Rather than dwell on how great the offense looks, let’s just examine the stats.

Vick: 8-8, 181, 2 touchdowns, 20 rushing yards
LeSean McCoy: 55 yards, touchdown
Desean Jackson: 93 yards, touchdown

270 yards on 15 plays. Monday Night Football records getting shattered. This is a whooping.

28-0. Still in quarter number one.

Another Michael Vick TD Drive, LeSean McCoy Takes it In

Wowwowowowowow.

I’ve never seen an Eagles offense look this good. Michael Vick is the left arm of God right now and Andy Reid must be pissing himself with glee. Desean Jackson added a few yards, Jason Avant had his reception, and McCoy finally punched it in from 11 yards out on a short catch from Vick. That’s three touchdowns in less than ten minutes. What team are we watching?

21-0 Eagles. Here comes the boom.

Update

Perfect Drive Leads to Mike Vick Rushing Touchdown

Um. Wow again?

The Eagles defense forced Donovan McNabb and his shiny new contract into a three-and-out on their first possession, handing the ball back to the offense at the Philly 37. Michael Vick hit slot man Jason Avant for 15, then Jeremy Maclin took an end-around for an 11-yard first down. LeSean McCoy ran for a couple, and they went back to him for a 27-yard textbook screen pass that got them all the way to the Redskins 7 yard line. The Eagles have had difficulties in the red zone (forever) but not this time around as Vick avoided pressure and dove in the last two yards to get the touchdown and put the Eagles up 14-0 less than 5 minutes into the game.

Touchdowns, not field goals, are the difference between this early lead and last week’s early dominance on the Colts. Let’s stretch this baby out. Holy crap we look good.

Update

Michael Vick Hits Desean Jackson for 88-yard Touchdown

Wow. After Jorrick Calvin muffed the opening kickoff, the Eagles were backed up to their own 12-yard line. No problem. Michael Vick had tons of time on a play action and flashed his monster arm, airing it out well over 50 yards to Desean Jackson. DJ had a step on Laron Landry, made the catch in rhythm, and stumbled to an easy touchdown the next 30 yards.

Michael Vick’s arm is unparalleled right now. This was Desean’s longest reception in a short career filled with long gainers. 7-0 Eagles early. Statement made.

Eagles At Redskins: Eagles Announce Inactives

The Eagles have announced their inactives for tonight. Nate Allen, Ellis Hobbs, & King Dunlap are all out due to injury. Reggie Wells, Garrett Mills, Chad Hall & Daniel Te’o-Nesheim will also sit.

That means rookie TE Clay Harbor will dress for only the second time this year and newly signed safety Colt Anderson will be in the lineup

Eagles At Redskins: Michael Vick Has Milestone In Sight

Tonight's matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins has huge implications for both squads as they try to position themselves for a potential playoff spot. There's individual story-lines galore, but there's also so much at stake for both teams in terms of positioning in the NFC East and NFC Wild Card standings.

One individual note to keep an eye on however not related to Donovan McNabb and the huge contract extension he just signed is the possibility of Michael Vick surpassing Steve Young for the second most rushing yards all-time by a quarterback. Here are the current rankings. If Vick can amass 25 yards, which certainly seems like a distinct possibility, he'll move past Young and inch closer to catching Randall Cunningham.

Eagles At Redskins: McDermott Talks Run Defense

The first meeting between the Eagles & Redskins was billed as an epic Donovan McNabb vs Michael Vick matchup. Of course, Vick was knocked out of the game early and McNabb was poor. The reality of the game was that it was the Redskins running attack vs the Eagles defense. That’s a matchup where the Redskins scored a clear victory. They ran for 169 yards at 4.8 yards per carry. Since then however, the Eagles run defense has gotten considerably more stingy. Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott chalked that up to increased physicality up front.

“Well, I think the physical play of our defensive line, number one, and then just our defense continuing to come together as an overall defense. When you talk about run defense, it’s not just the front four, it’s not just the front seven, but the secondary comes into play as well.”

There were also some personnel changes that factored in, namely the fact that Moise Fokou and especially Antonio Dixon have been inserted into the starting lineup. “You’re talking about two physical players and also [DT] Antonio [Dixon] and Moise. So that certainly helped. Tackling has helped, improved fundamentals has helped, which always does when you’re talking about the run game.”

McDermott was also asked if the uncertainty as to who will start at RB for the Skins makes any difference?

“It really doesn’t matter to us. The system is the system. It’s a zone running scheme with some misdirection routes built in. Whether it’s [Ryan] Torain or [Clinton] Portis or whoever falls in behind those two or three, we’ll take the challenge.”

Update

Redskins Sign Donovan McNabb To 5-Year, $78 Million Contract

ESPN’s Michael Smith is reporting that the Redskins and Donovan McNabb have agreed to a new five-year, $78 million extension which includes $40 million in guaranteed money. The deal comes just two weeks after Redskins coach Mike Shanahan benched the QB in the final two minutes of the team's loss to Detroit.

The new extension immediately becomes the story of tonight’s matchup with the Eagles on Monday Night Football. So far this season McNabb has thrown for seven TDs and eight INTs with a QB rating of 76, the lowest since his rookie year. So clearly this extension can’t been seen as a reward for what he’s done so far… The Redskins are betting that McNabb’s play will improve and that he’ll be able to play at a high level through his mid-to-late 30s. McNabb will turn 34 in 10 days and would be pushing 40 if he were to play out this entire contract. It will be interesting to see the details of how the contract is structured.

Eagles At Redskins: Andy Reid & Michael Vick On The Allure Of Monday Night Football

The Philadelphia Eagles play their first Monday night game of the year in a rematch with the Washington Redskins. Andy Reid talked about

"Yeah, listen, I think everybody will tell you that it’s exciting. We’ve had some wild ones. That one against the Atlanta Falcons, you know, when [former Eagles and Falcons LB] Ike Reese kind of got everybody mad at us. They’re all different. Listen, they’re all different. Ike is sitting back there for those people watching. Listen, there’s some excitement to it, there sure is. You’re the only show that day and the players feel that and the coaches feel it, however, you have to go through the process to get there. Then, you want to exhaust that. I think the guys have done a good job with that this week and then come out and play. You can’t let the hype control the game. You have to play the game and play it with great emotion and so on. Don’t let it get to the point where it’s overboard and disrupts what you’re trying to get done there."

Michael Vick was asked whether starting his first Monday night football game since he’s been back was extra special?

"No, just another game to me, another game that we have to go out and win. It’s definitely going to be exciting. It’s always great to have a chance to play on Monday night. That’s what you dream of as a kid growing up watching Monday Night Football, so I’m definitely going to enjoy the moment, though."

Philadelphia Eagles At Washington Redskins Injury Report

The Eagles travel to Washington on Monday night for their second meeting of the season with the Redskins. The Eagles come into the game pretty healthy, but will be missing at least one key piece to their defense.

Rookie safety Nate Allen has officially been ruled out with a neck injury. Allen, who the Eagles drafted with one of the picks they got from Washington for Donovan McNabb, has had a standout rookie season. He'll be replaces in the starting lineup by another rookie, Kurt Coleman.

It does seem like Max Jean-Gilles will be ready to play this weekend after leaving last week's game with a concussion. Max is listed as questionable. but was cleared by doctors and says he expects to start at RG.

The Eagles will also be without Ellis Hobbs as he is still working to get back from a hip flexor.

The Redskins will get back Clinton Portis this week, but are likely to be without standout rookie return specialist Brandon Banks.

Although the Redskins were hopeful that Banks, who underwent surgery during the bye week, would recover in time to contribute Monday night against the Eagles at FedEx Field, "he was a little sore today," Coach Mike Shanahan said Saturday after practice at Redskins Park. "You could kind of guess that was gonna happen. ... The good part about it, there's a chance."
