Trevor Laws Awarded A Second Sack After Jaguars Game

Over at Bleeding Green Nation, we gave the week 3 game ball to DT Trevor Laws. The third year man was a dominant presence on the interior of the Eagles defensive line and seemed to be in the backfield on every other play.

He only recorded one sack in the game, which Philly.com’s Sheil Kapadia thought was odd.

Laws dropped Garrard for a 2-yard loss in the first, although I’m not sure why he wasn’t credited with a sack on the play.

The NFL wasn’t sure why either, so they credited Laws with a second sack in the game. He reacted on twitter.

They tried to rob yer boy but now they can call him by his rightful name. “TWO-SACKS MCGEE

Michael Vick Nominated For FedEx Air Player Of The Week For Performance Against Jaguars

For the second straight week, an Eagle has been nominated for the one of the NFL’s FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week awards. Last week, LeSean McCoy won it…

This week it’s Michael Vick’s turn. He’s been nominated for the Air Player Of the Week after completing 17 of 31 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles’ 28-3 win over the Jaguars.

Eagles Rookie S Nate Allen was previously nominated for the rookie of the week after his interception in the Packer game.

Eagles and Jaguars React To Michael Vick's Performance

The whole league has been buzzing about Michael Vick’s performance Sunday after he accounted for all four of the teams’ TDs. The players and coaches of both the Eagles and Jaguars are probably buzzing the most.

Andy Reid

He’s been playing his heart out for the last six quarters, including this game here. He played his heart out today so it’s more about him than me than anything else. It’s a tribute to what he has done and how he has handled things. I’m proud of him for doing that

Jaguars DT Terence Knighton

“Vick did a better job throwing than we expected. We gave him so much time and he torched us.’’

DeSean Jackson on Vick’s strong performance in short time

“The biggest thing with Mike is that he’s been in this situation before and he’s had these opportunities. He’s been a big-time quarterback in Atlanta. I think not playing two years definitely hurt him a little bit but as far as his speed and his game, his instincts, have come back fast. A lot of the things he’s able to do are the characteristics of things he’s always been able to and the gift he’s been able to bring to our team.”

Eagles Vs Jaguars: Eagles Red Zone Offense Stays Hot

One of the things that hasn’t been talked about regarding the Eagles offense under Michael Vick is the performance in the red zone. It’s something the Eagles have struggled with for a couple years now. And for a few years we’ve been trying to figure out who was to blame.

Was it poor playcalling? Were the WRs too short? Was it Donovan McNabb’s fault?

Well, with the same coach and same WRs the Eagles are now seven of eight in the red zone this season. It should be plain to anyone who’s watched these games that Michael Vick is most likely the biggest factor there. He’s making plays down there. Vick says that his "eyes light up" inside the 20.

"If you go back to my days in Atlanta I thought we always did a good job in the red zone and had a high efficiency and percentage in the red zone and were able to score a lot of points.  My eyes light up when we get down there and I think everybody else on this football team does too.  You have to go out there and put the ball in the end zone. You work so hard to get down there and you don't want field goals, you want touchdowns."

Philadelphia Eagles Blow Out Jacksonville Jaguars 28-3

The Philadelphia Eagles turned in their most complete game of the year in a 28-3 road blow out of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Michael Vick was fantastic again throwing for 291 yards, three TDs and rushing for another.

It was all around fantastic day from an Eagles offense that showed both big play ability and red zone efficiency. With Vick at the helm the Eagles have scored TDs on seven of their last eight red zone trips. The big plays came from DeSean Jackson, who caught a 61-yard TD and Jeremy Maclin, who hauled in a 45-yarder. Maclin’s TD was his fourth of the year, which ties him for the most in the NFL.

As good as the Eagles offense was, the defense was perhaps even more impressive. Given how poorly they’d played the last two weeks, the defense's performance today has to be the most important takeaway from Week 3. The defense sacked David Garrard six times and Asante Samuel grabbed his first pick of the year. The Jaguars managed just 184 yards of offense, a decent chunk of which came in garbage time of the 4th quarter.

Up next for the Eagles is Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field.

Michael Vick's Two TDs Give Philadelphia Eagles 14-3 Lead Over Jacksonville Jaguars At The Half

The Eagles’ offense hasn’t looked quite as crisp as it did last week, but big plays from Michael Vick & DeSean Jackson have given the Eagles a 14-3 lead anyway.

The Eagles first score came on a 61 yard strike from Vick to Jackson on a 3rd and 19. The Eagles second TD came just at the end of the first half as Vick led the Eagles on a 7 play 53 yard drive with no timeouts left that culminated in a 16 yard TD pass to Jeremy Maclin. The drive started with 1:37 left in the half and left just 4 seconds on the clock. Perfectly executed from Michael Vick.

Vick has now hooked up with Maclin for a red zone TD in three straight games.

The Eagles defense played what was arguably it’s best half of football all year. The front four especially have been active sacking David Garrard twice. Darryl Tapp, playing in his first game of the year got the first sack and Trevor Laws, who has been in the backfield constantly, got the second.

Preview: Philadelphia Eagles At Jacksonville Jaguars

This afternoon Michael Vick makes his second start as an Eagle, but only the first since being named the teams' starter for the rest of the season. Vick opens his time as the starter down in Jacksonville against the 1-1 Jaguars, who he last faced in 2003 as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. Vick says he still expects to have a little bit of jitters as he makes his first start as the official starter.

"I had a little bit. When you first start, it's a different feel, a different atmosphere. You're on the road. Haven't started in four years, so it's all a part of the process you have to go through. And I think it's good to have butterflies in the beginning of the game, but once that ball is snapped and the game is on, then it's on for 60 minutes."

Jacksonville has had an up-and-down start to their season with a solid home win against the Denver Broncos followed by a 38-13 drubbing on the road against the Chargers.

The Jaguars offense has pretty much followed the fortunes of QB David Garrard. In Week 1 against Denver he threw for 3 TDs and they put up 27 points, last week against the Chargers he threw four picks and the team was blown out. The Jaguars' best offensive weapon is RB Maurice Jones-Drew, who actually has not rushed for 100 yards in a game in eight of his last nine contests.

As much as their offense struggled last week, the Jaguars' 29th ranked defense seems to be clear weakness of the team. The Jags have especially been vulnerable through the air giving up 629 yards through the air after the first two games. CB Derek Cox was actually benched last week after getting burnt a number of times against the Broncos, but he's expected to return to the starting lineup today.

Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked whether the balmy heat expected in Jacksonville will play a factor in today's game.

"Well, listen, I don't put a big emphasis on the heat or the cold, when it's cold. I think you just go play, and you start thinking about [the heat] and not the game, then I think that's a problem. On the other hand, it's always good to practice in the type of climate that you're going to play in. I think that's ok."

Considering a good portion of the Eagles roster was born in Florida, other parts of the deep south, or California ... it's hard to imagine they'll be affected by the heat too much.

He was also asked about the defense's inconsistency this season.

"I mentioned that after, really both games. The first game I thought was two different games in itself. I thought this last game was almost three different games in itself. There were three phases that the offense and defense both went through. We have to work on that and we've addressed it, and we have to work on it and play consistent for four quarters, and that's not just about the defense. That's the offense included there."

Might all the youth on the defense be to blame?

"Well, listen, I've mentioned this with all the young guys period. It takes a little bit of time to get going. The important thing is that you get better every week. I'd tell you that on the defensive side we just keep getting better every week, and the continuity and aggressive play, energy; all those things come into effect. You want to make sure you keep your energy level up as your working through things and this crew does that. I think we've seen that in practice and in the games, they play very hard. It's just on both sides of the ball, we just have to get a couple things together and we've been working on that this week."

Eagles/Jaguars kick off at 4 p.m. today.
