Andy Reid: "We Need To Do A Better Job In All Phases"

Andy Reid’s Monday press conference today was exactly like you might have expected it to be. He went with his usual "blame me" line where he took responsibility for the struggles of the team. That’s fine, but at the same time this what he’s said all year and really all he’s said for the past 10 years whenever they’ve had bad games or stretches.

But this isn’t like previous years. The Eagles are riding a four game losing streak for the first time since 1999, Reid’s first year here. But today, he didn’t offer many explanations or promise changes saying only that "we need to do a better job in all phases" and that the team was "bought in" to turning things around.

Reid was was asked whether the team's mistakes were due to them "pressing."

"I don't know if it's pressing." said Reid "Do they want to win a game? Yeah, absolutely, the players want to win a game. So do the coaches and everybody else. But there's a certain process you go through, and you go through it. I wouldn't say a tipped ball is pressing, I wouldn't say that. I don't see that as a problem with the turnovers, I see other things."

He did mention that he thought Danny Watkins and King Dunlap played well on the offensive line. Other than the red zone penalty for Watkins, I agree. He was a lot more solid than he was in preseason and seemed to get more push than Kyle DeVan, who he replaced. As for King Dunlap, this is the second start (the previous one being against Atlanta last season) where he surprised by looking quite capable. Our first impression of Dunlap was that really poor performance against Oakland, but in the past couple season he’s obviously worked hard and improved.

Reid also mentioned that it would be "a stretch" for either Jason Peters or Trent Cole to be ready to play by this weekend against the Redskins. It’s more likely that those two might return after the bye in week 7.
