Despite earlier reports that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick had been ruled out of Sunday's game against the New York Giants, coach Andy Reid would not dismiss the possibility that the Pro Bowler could return this week.
Vick has not practiced yet this week due to broken ribs, but Reid said he would check with team doctors later in the week to determine Vick's availability.
"We keep an open communication, that's how we do it. So, that's how we'll go. I know he wants to play, and I understand that, so that's what he's shooting for. I think we've got to make sure we check with the docs, and Rick, and see how things go," Reid said.
Reid said Vick has shown improvement through the week, and even felt better from Wednesday to Thursday.
"He's feeling a little bit better. I'm not going to tell you he's feeling great, but he's feeling a little bit better," said Reid.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg called Michael Vick "day-to-day" on Thursday and said he was "optimistic" the quarterback would play Sunday night against the New York Giants.
"Yeah, he's a tough man and I'm always optimistic with him," Mornhinweg said of Vick, who has broken ribs. "He's doing everything possible to get ready for the next game both in the training room as well as in the classroom."
The coordinator wasn't sure Vick would practice Thursday, though.
"This afternoon, I don't know that. Mike is day-to-day, so we'll see how he feels. I talked to him briefly a few minutes ago but it wasn't about that, it was about his preparation," he said.
If Vick doesn't play, Vince Young could earn his first start of the season. Mornhinweg said Young has grown quite a bit since the beginning of the season.
"In leaps and bounds. He came in without any type of offseason at all and with a little bit shorter camp. He's been working hard both on and off the field and in the classroom. [Quarterbacks coach] Doug Pederson has been doing a great job and has great confidence in Vince. I think he'll play well," he said.

To say Andy Reid was “non-committal” or “cagey” about Michael Vick’s status for this weekend would be putting it lightly. The already testy Eagles coach looked like Manny Pacquio ducking and dodging nearly every questions reporters asked of him regarding Vick’s injury availability for this Sunday’s game against the Giants and about who might start in his place.
Here’s just a sampling of how it went.
On how Vick is today compared to Monday:
“He’s still sore. These next few days will tell, so we’ll see, but he is sore today.”
On what will determine who starts at quarterback if Vick cannot play:
“We’ll see how practice goes this week.”
On whether Young is the top backup because he was put into the game when Vick came out:
“We’ll just see. We’ll see how it all works out.”
On whether Young and Kafka will split the practice reps 50/50:
“Not sure yet.”
On whether Vick’s rib injury is comparable to the one he sustained last season against Washington and whether it is more or less manageable:
“I don’t know, I think the next few days will tell. We’ll have a better idea as things go on. We’re not going to put him in any bit of risk out there, that’s not what we do. We’ll just see how the next few days go.”
Hopefully you’re all feeling very informed now!

Speaking at his Wednesday press conference today Eagles coach Andy Reid would not rule out Michael Vick for this Sunday’s game against the Giants, despite the QB breaking two ribs in last week’s game against the Cardinals. Reid was asked about the severity of Vick’s injury.
“There all a little bit different in different places.” Reid said “At times the player will feel the rubbing going on with the ribs. Michael doesn’t have that right now. We’ll just see. We take it day by day and we’ll see how it all works out.”
Third string QB Mike Kafka, who has a chance to start this weekend, says he wouldn’t count out Vick for this weekend either.
“Vick is a tough guy and I wouldn’t expect anything less. He has a couple of broken ribs, so I’m assuming that has to hurt. I’ve never had any broken ribs so I can’t speak for him. He is a tough guy and he hides it pretty well if he is in any pain.”
Kafka took a few snaps with the first team today, but the majority were taken by Vince Young, who is the favorite to start this weekend if Vick can’t go. Asked whether or not the uncertainty at QB affects their preparation for this weekend, WR Jason Avant says their focus is no different than any other week.
“Well, we’re going to go out there and prepare like we do every week." Avant said "We just have to go out there and execute, wide receivers and tight ends, and help whoever’s back there with our o-line and other people. So we have to go out and, no matter who’s there, play the best we can for them.”

Michael Vick suffered broken ribs in Week 10 against the Cardinals. He appears unlikely to play this week, but his status for next week has not been decided.

Prior to Sunday’s game, Michael Vick was the fourth most accurate passer in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. In fact, you’d have to say that this accuracy he developed when he got to Philadelphia has as much to do with his success here as anything. So that’s a major reason why it was odd to watch him struggle the way he did against Arizona. The accuracy was simply not there, a fact he admitted to after the game.
“I was inaccurate today and never really got comfortable" Vick said. I’m very hard on myself and that just can’t happen."
What he never did say yesterday was why he was so inaccurate. However, at this Monday press conference today, Andy Reid may have revealed the reason. On the second play of the game, Reid says Vick broke “a couple” ribs.
Reid said that Vick told him he “blanked out” the pain and it didn’t affect his play, but the coach said he thought it did. Honestly, there is no “thought” about it. Clearly it did. Reid also said that Vick didn’t tell anyone he was hurt and coaches just thought he “got the wind knocked out of him.”
Vick’s status for next Sunday’s prime time game against the Giants is unknown, meaning that Vince Young could be the Eagles starter in the game.
As for other injury news, King Dunlap suffered a concussion and Jeremy Maclin is dealing with shoulder and hamstring injuries. Reid said that the shoulder is more of a concern than the hamstring.
