Andy Reid Press Conference: Improvement Necessary For Philadelphia Eagles After 8-8 Season

Andy Reid broke his media silence on Tuesday.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid addressed the media during a press conference on Tuesday for the first time since the season ended, preaching the need to improve on this year's 8-8 record.

The Eagles began the 2011 season with four losses in their first five games, but ended it with four consecutive victories, all by at least 13 points. Reid noted that avoiding turnovers will be a necessary adjustment next year, but believes his team turned a corner by season's end.

Reid said he offered a job to Steve Spagnuolo before Spagnuolo accepted an offer to become the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator.

"If you could have two great coaches on defense that's better than one," the coach said, according to the Twitter feed of Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jonathan Tamari.

The Eagles decided to maintain their own defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, and Reid gave Castillo another vote of confidence Monday. The head coach said he liked Castillo's schemes and saw real defensive development by season's end.

Reid said the Eagles will enter free agency and the NFL Draft with an aggressive mindset. He's excited for next season, when a talented team should benefit from a greater sense of continuity.
