Asante Samuel Trade Rumors: Nothing Imminent, Says Agent

The agent for Asante Samuel, Alonzo Shavers, told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Les Bowen on Friday that no trade involving his client is imminent and he believes the Eagles can afford Samuel's $9.4 million price tag in 2012.

Shavers added that he was not comfortable talking about any discussions he has had with Eagles management.

As Jonathan Tamari cautions, it's natural for no trade to be imminent at this juncture since teams are not yet allowed to trade players. It's entirely possible that a trade surfaces to deal Samuel elsewhere as the offseason progresses and the NFL Draft approaches.

The Eagles' secondary was viewed as a strong asset prior to last season, but the team's stable of star cornerbacks struggled at times to share the same field, with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie filling a new role as the nickle cornerback.

Samuel trade speculation has swirled since the Eagles acquired Rodgers-Cromartie last summer.
