Brent Celek Injury: Eagles TE Has Slight Sprain In MCL, Listed As Day-To-Day

On the first day of training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles they suffered an injury to their starting tight end Brent Celek. Celek has a MCL sprain in his right knee, which was sustained in Thursday's practice session. An MRI was performed on his knee and Celek is currently listed as day-to-day, and head coach Andy Reid does not seem to worried.

"Brent could be back in the next couple days, it could be a week, but he could be back in the next couple of days,: said Reid.

The injury does not seem to be serious, but Celek said that he just needs to be "cautious" of his knee. Celek is frustrated by the injury since he came into training camp completely healthy and is disappointed since he is now forced to miss practice time.

Unless the injury lingers, Celek is not going to get behind in the offensive game plan or miss any preseason games.

In his absence, Reid said that he and GM Howie Roseman have been looking both outside and on the roster for competition.

"Howie and I are looking at that and we've got a couple fullbacks that can fill in that role in the meantime. We just have to weigh that out whether we need to bring someone else in. If you bring someone else in and they haven't been in a camp then they've got to take the three-day build up period. Really it is not going to help you tomorrow so you have to look at those things."

The "ramp up" period he refers to is a new provision in the CBA that mandates new players be given three days before they can participate in a team practice. With Celek likely only days from returning, Reid didn't think any type of move would be particularly helpful.
