Recap: Getlzaf's Late Goal Lifts Ducks Over Flyers

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Ryan Getzlaf scored the game-winning goal with 1:46 remaining in regulation to lift the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

Lubomir Visnovsky and Jason Blake also scored for Anaheim, which evened its mark to 1-1 on the club’s current four-game road trip. Curtis McElhinney allowed two goals on 40 shots in the victory.

Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers, who have lost three straight games. Sergei Bobrovsky made 19 saves in the losing effort. Philadelphia will conclude its current season-long, five-game homestand on Saturday against Toronto.

Flyers Vs Ducks: Sergei Bobrovsky Gets The Start In Net

The Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi is reporting that Sergei Bobrovsky will get his second straight start in net tonight as the Philadelphia Flyers host the Anaheim Ducks.

Bobrovsky is 2-1 this season with a 2.67 goals against average and has saved 91% of the shots he’s faced. Bobrovsky was sharp in his first two outings of the season against the Penguins and Avalanche, allowing just two goals in each of those contests, but he struggled against Pittsburgh in his third appearance allowing four goals.

Preview: Flyers Host St. Louis Blues Tonight At Wells Fargo Center

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to get their offense going tonight when they host the Anaheim Ducks in an interconference battle at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers are 2-2-1 on the year, but have scored just 11 goals over those five games. Philadelphia has been particularly bad on the power play, posting just two scores on 22 opportunities with the man advantage.

Philadelphia was 1-for-5 on the power play in its last game on Saturday, but that was the club's only goal in a 5-1 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby notched a pair of third-period power-play goals and totaled three points to lead the rival Pens to the rout.

Danny Briere provided the only offense for the Flyers, who have dropped two straight and three of four.

Sergei Bobrovsky, who stymied the Penguins in his NHL debut on October 7, was torched in defeat for four goals on 31 shots. It was his first career defeat after two victories. Brian Boucher, who is 0-1-1 on the year, could get the start tonight.

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger has yet to record a point in three games this year and he'll try to break that trend this evening against his former team. Pronger skated for Anaheim for three seasons (2006-09) and helped the Ducks win the franchise's only Stanley Cup in 2007.

Philly is 1-2-0 on a five-game homestand that will end Saturday against Toronto.

Anaheim lost the first test of a four-game road trip Wednesday night, dropping a 3-1 decision in Columbus. Rick Nash scored twice to lead Columbus to the victory at Nationwide Arena.

Teemu Selanne scored his 609th career goal to move into sole possession of 16th place on the all-time list. Selanne can tie Bobby Hull for 15th place with his next goal.

Jonas Hiller stopped 19 shots in defeat as the Ducks lost for the fifth time in seven games to start the season.

"I think we did some things very well, but we made mistakes, too," Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said. "Tonight our power play was good in some situations, as far as creating chances. But in the latter part, we just stood around and didn't really move and attack the box. We got some shots, but everything was from the perimeter."

Anaheim rookie defenseman Cam Fowler sat out last night's game with a broken nose, but the 18-year-old may be able to play tonight.

The Ducks earned a shootout victory in Philly last year in the only 2009-10 meeting between the clubs. The Flyers had won the previous three encounters prior to last season's matchup and have taken five of seven overall from Anaheim.
