Report: Flyers to Extend GM Paul Holmgren for 3 years

According to Anthony SanFilippo of the Delco Times, the Flyers are going to extend General Manager Paul Holmgren for another 3 years on Thursday. The deal with be worth $4.5 million, or an average of $1.5 million a year.

After taking over in October 2006, the Flyers finished last in the NHL that season before going to the Eastern Conference Finals the following year. A first-round exit and an Eastern Conference Championship later, the Flyers are no atop the NHL at the half-way point.

The team's success is apparently enough to lead the Flyers to extend the General Manager, who just last year appeared on the hot seat before Brian Boucher stopped Olli Jokinen in the shootout of the 82nd game to send the Flyers to the playoffs.

More to come.
