Chris Pronger Injury Update: Flyers Announce Defenseman Out For The Year

Chris Pronger's 2011-2012 season is done, the Flyers announce.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman and captain Chris Pronger has been battling concussion-like symptoms that have had him out indefinitely. According to a report (via Tim Panaccio's Twitter), Pronger's 2011-2012 season as at an end.

The team also officially announced the news on their website today:

Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren gave the following update on the status of Chris Pronger:

"After consultation with respected concussion specialists Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Micky Collins, it is the opinion of both doctors that Chris is suffering from severe post concussion syndrome. It is the recommendation of Doctors Maroon and Collins that Chris not return to play for the Philadelphia Flyers for the remainder of the 2011-12 season or playoffs.  Chris will continue to receive treatment and therapy with the hope that he can get better." Due to various injuries, Pronger played just 13 games for Philadelphia this season. The latest injury occurred on Oct. 24 when Pronger was struck with a stick in the eye. He missed games until Nov. 9. He was removed from the lineup just five games later with concussion-like symptoms. Pronger will now be out for the rest of the regular season and the entire playoffs.
