Flyers Vs. Avalanche Final Score: Philadelphia Forces OT With Late Goal Only To Fall In Shootout

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their first game of a five-game road trip on Monday night at the Pepsi Center. Colorado won via shootout, 3-2.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead to the second period, but allowed two goals on seven shots in the middle frame, including one at the 19:16 mark. The Avalanche held on to the 2-1 lead for a little over 20 minutes, but needed to hold on for 18 seconds longer for a win in regulation.

With the final seconds ticking off, Flyers center Max Talbot helped keep the puck in Colorado's zone, where the puck would ultimately find its way out in front of Avalanche goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere. With Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell jabbing at it, the puck slipped through to the other side where Wayne Simmonds was waiting to put it in for the tie.

After a rather uneventful overtime, the game went to shootout. The Avalanche made all three of their tries, winning when Matt Read couldn't complete the same for the Flyers.

The Flyers outshot the Avs 33-27, kept pace in face offs (32-33), and scored the lone power play goal of the game, but still dropped their second straight game.

Earning a point for forcing OT, the Flyers remain atop the Eastern's Atlantic at 44 points, four above their Winter Classic opponent, the Rangers, and Pittsburgh.
