The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Dallas Stars by a final score of 4-1. Claude Giroux led the way with four points in his first game back from a concussion.
The Philadelphia Flyers added to their lead over the Dallas Stars in the second period of tonight’s game in Dallas. Jaromir Jagr’s 11th goal of the season gave the Flyers a 3-1 early in the second period of play.
Jagr scored on a power play, set up by Claude Giroux and Kimmo Timonen at the eight minute mark in the second period. That was the second time the Flyers used the man advantage to their favor. Wayne Simmonds scored a power play goal in the first period.
Giroux picked his second assist and third point of the night. This is his first game back from a concussion suffered earlier this month.
The chippy play in the first period escalated in the second. Referees handed out 42 penalty minutes all together in the second frame. Tom Sestito drew a 10 minute misconduct penalty. Adam Burish and Brenden Morrow picked up 10 minute misconduct penalties for the Stars.

Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette headed into the tunnel to the visitors’ locker room at American Airlines Center in Dallas. As he did, he got into a little bit of a shoving match with Dallas center Steve Ott.
Check out the video of the brief tete-a-tete between the Flyers’ coach and Ott.
It was a chippy first period for both teams. Ott took a shot at Claude Giroux, playing in his first game back from a concussion. Could something have been about that incident to provoke whatever happened in the tunnel between Laviolette and Ott? It’s very likely.
As for Laviolette being in the tunnel with Ott, the visiting team exits the ice via a tunnel across the ice. The visiting coaches sometimes take the walk across the ice, but often times they’ll just stroll down to the Stars bench and walk down the tunnel. That’s exactly what Laviolette did in this case.
The Philadelphia Flyers lead the Dallas Stars by a score of 2-1 after the first period. The Flyers are looking to get back in the win column after a two-game skid.
Dallas struck first with a goal in the first minute of play. Claude Giroux tied the score at the 8:30 mark in the first period with an even strength goal, assisted by Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell. Giroux and Kimmo Timonen set up a Wayne Simmons power play goal a few minutes later to put the Flyers on top in the first period.
Giroux is making his return to the ice tonight after suffering a concussion on Dec. 10 against Tampa Bay. The Flyers' center took a knee in the back of the head in a collision with teammate Wayne Simmonds in that game. He missed Philadelphia's last four games, in which the Flyers posted a 202 record.

Flyers Vs. Stars: Philly Wins 4-1 As Claude Giroux Returns
The Philadelphia Flyers welcomed back center Claude Giroux in a Wednesday night battle with the Dallas Stars. The Flyers took a lead in the first period that they would never let go of, hanging on to win by a final score of 4-1.
Giroux missed the last four games because of a concussion he suffered against Tampa Bay. He made the most of his return, scoring a goal and assisting on the other three. Giroux put four shots on net and finished with a +1.
Philadelphia scored twice on five power plays, while holding Dallas scoreless when they had the man advantage three times. Both teams totaled 50 minutes worth of penalties, including three 10 minute majors in what was a physical affair. Even the coaches got in on it when Flyers coach Peter Laviolette and Steve Ott from the Stars got chippy in the tunnel between the first two periods.
The Flyers lead the Atlantic Division with 46 points from a 21-8-4 record. They play the Rangers on Friday.
