Winter Classic Alumni Game: Lindros, LeClair, Parent Star Early On

Stay connected for news and updates

The NHL Winter Classic Alumni game is underway at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia featuring many of the great players to ever don a Flyers or Rangers sweater. The game looks pretty much like what it is, a bunch of old men playing hockey, but the fans in South Philly are clearly having a blast.

66 year old Bernie Parent was the star of the first five minutes making 5 saves, including a breakaway stop on Rangers’ legend Ron Duguay. He left after just about 5 minutes to a standing ovation from the crowd and both teams.

After Bernie departed, the scoring began and of course, it was the Legion of Doom line who did the damage. Eric Lindros found John LeClair at the side of the net and he beat John Vanbeisbrouck for the first goal of the game. Shjon Podein scored the games’ second goal a few minutes later after he picked up on a fanned shot from Rick Tocchet.
