Injuries Woes Continue, Flyers Recall Ben Holmstrom

Stay connected for news and updates

While it hasn't been announced yet, the Courier-Post and Philly Sports Daily are reporting that the Flyers have recalled center Ben Holmstrom from the Phantoms. When Blair Betts left Sunday's game with a "lower-body injury", the natural assumption was that Holmstrom would be the call up should Betts miss any time.

This is Holmstrom's second call-up of the year, where he played a little more than 8 minutes against Toronto in March. Recently, Tim McManus of the PostStar named Holmstrom the Phantoms' MVP on the year. In the AHL, Holmstrom is known as a two-way player, centering both the first power play unit as well as the first penalty killing unit. This is largely due to his faceoff ability, which did not manifest itself in his one Flyers game.

On the year, Holmstrom has 16 goals and 21 assists through 75 games. As Chuck Gormley reported in the link above, he was centering Scott Hartnell and Kris Versteeg. It will be interesting to see if Holmstrom stays between those two, but look for him to play on Tuesday.
